Social action & Justice

At Mary Magdalene, we believe that social action & justice is an essential part of our faith. Our members are involved in everything from protest marches for equality, collecting donations for those who are less fortunate, partnering with orphanages in Tijuana, and advocating for justice. All are welcome to join in any of our actions.

  • ASYLUM SHELTER VOLUNTEERS - MMACC members assist at the temporary San Diego Shelter for Asylum Seekers, most of whom are fleeing poverty and oppression in Central America. Volunteers help with serving meals, sorting clothing and other donations, serving as airport and bus terminal guides, accompanying guests to offsite medical care, and performing other tasks as needed. Clothing for men, women and children is also collected at MMACC and delivered to the Shelter weekly.

  • CLOTHING DRIVE FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS SHELTER - MMACC members are continuously collecting clothing for the Asylum Seekers Shelter. The shelter continues to need men’s, women’s, and children’s shirts and pants. Small men’s pants are in especially short supply. Also still needed are backpacks and small travel bags, new or used. However, the items they are in greatest need of are NEW shoelaces, socks, underwear (all sizes). Items received that the shelter cannot use will be donated to the Catholic Worker for the homeless. Feel free to bring you donations to church any Sunday and give them to Mike, Mary Kay, Lou or Joan.
